Egnatia overturn Shamrock defeat to reach Europa League play-off

TIRANA, August 14 – Albanian champions Egnatia reached the Europa League play-off after a 5-1 win over Shamrock Rovers in Rrogozhina. The result overturned their 3-1 first-leg defeat and secured a meeting with Norwegian side Lillestrom.

Egnatia have also secured a place in the Conference League league phase. This applies even if they lose to Lillestrom in the Europa League play-off.

Coach Nevil Dede’s side made a fast start. Daniel Adjesa opened the scoring after 4 minutes, while Albanese doubled the lead in the 11th minute. Gruda then added a third before Adjesa scored his second goal for a 4-0 lead.

However, Egnatia lost Ndreca to a red card in first-half stoppage time. Albanese scored again after the break to complete his brace and make it 5-0.

Shamrock Rovers reduced the deficit through Burke in the 70th minute. Egnatia nevertheless held on for a 5-1 victory and secured their place in the Europa League play-off.
