Egnatia secure historic Champions League qualification with big win over Petrocub

TIRANA, July 16 – Albanian champions Egnatia have reached the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Moldova’s champions Petrocub 6-1 in the return leg at the “Arena Egnatia”.

The Rrogozhina-based team had drawn 1-1 in the first leg away from home. However, Egnatia delivered a dominant performance in front of its supporters and secured a historic European qualification.

Meanwhile, coach Nevil Dede’s side started strongly and took the lead in the 2nd minute through Bitri. Albanese doubled the advantage in the 30th minute, while Platica’s own goal gave Egnatia a 3-0 lead before halftime.

After the break, the Albanian champions continued their attacking approach. Yago scored the fourth goal in the 58th minute. Petrocub briefly reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute, but Egnatia responded quickly.

Bakayoko added a fifth goal in the 84th minute, while Gruda completed the 6-1 victory in the final minutes of the match.

As a result, Egnatia advanced to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The Albanian champions will face Slovenian side NK Celje in the next round as they continue their European campaign.
