The Ombudsman Endrit Shabani, who also serves as President of the Mediterranean Ombudsmen Organization (AOM), is conducting an official visit to the Republic of Kosovo, where he was received in a high-level meeting by the Speaker of Parliament and Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu.

The discussions focused on the protection of fundamental freedoms and ensuring the rights of Albanians in the region. Shabani emphasized the need for a joint and proactive approach to address current human rights challenges in both countries.

During the meeting, in his capacity as President of AOM, Shabani requested institutional support from the Assembly of Kosovo to strengthen the Ombudsman institution in Kosovo. He stressed that an independent and strong human rights protection mechanism is essential for guaranteeing the rule of law and a functioning democracy.

Shabani’s visit deepens strategic inter-institutional cooperation between Tirana and Pristina. His agenda in Pristina continues with important bilateral meetings with the Ombudsman of Kosovo, Naim Qelaj, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Nexhmi Rexhepi.
