Erjona Ismaili: EU integration is a national interest, not a party battle

Erjona Ismaili said today in Parliament that European Union integration must remain a national project above political divisions.

She called on the opposition to contribute constructively to Albania’s path toward the EU. Furthermore, she said Albania is at a historic moment, aiming to close negotiations by 2027 and achieve full EU membership by 2030.

According to Ismaili, politics must go beyond daily interests and party conflicts. She stressed that Albanians must appear united in front of the EU.

In addition, she highlighted progress in the negotiation process, including the opening of chapters and reforms in key areas. She also pointed to foreign investment, digitalization and alignment with EU foreign policy.

Ismaili addressed a strong message to the opposition. She said the opposition should not consider itself excluded from the integration process.

Moreover, she said all political forces must share the same goal: Albania’s EU membership. She criticized what she called “defamation of Albania” in international arenas for domestic political gain.

She warned that attacks on European partners damage Albania’s image. She also mentioned continued support from the European Union Delegation in Tirana and EU member state ambassadors.

Finally, she called for stronger political cooperation in Parliament and committees. She said the integration process should not be used as a political weapon,  but as a shared national objective.
