Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced changes to his government, with Ervin Demo taking over as Interior Minister as of Friday. Demo had served as Minister of State for Local Government since September 2025.
As part of the latest government changes, the Ministry of State for Local Government will be merged with the Interior Ministry, meaning no successor will be appointed to Demo’s previous position.
Before joining the government, Demo served as Mayor of Berat from 2019 to 2025.
From 2017 to 2018, he served as Deputy Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, while between 2012 and 2016 he was Vice-Rector of the University of Tirana.
Since 2004, Demo has been a full-time lecturer in the Department of Management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Tirana.
He completed his undergraduate and master’s studies in the United Kingdom. He later pursued postdoctoral studies at the University of Bologna in Italy, specializing in management and academic development.
