Estonian PM Michal: Direct Tallinn–Tirana flights open new opportunities for tourism and business

TIRANA, May 15 – Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said direct flights between Tallinn and Tirana will create new opportunities for tourism, citizens and businesses between the two countries. He made the statement during a joint press conference in Estonia with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Michal said Albania and Estonia have strong potential for cooperation in digital development and artificial intelligence. He said interest in these areas continues to grow. He added that Estonia’s digital model shows how technology reduces bureaucracy and improves public services. He also noted that almost all public services in Estonia operate online.

Meanwhile, Michal described Estonia’s new artificial intelligence initiative as a strategic investment for the country’s future. He said it supports economic growth and improves people’s work and daily life.

He also said Estonia is ready to deepen cooperation with Albania in the digital and technology sectors. He noted that Albania already has a minister for artificial intelligence. He added that Estonia must “catch up” with Albania in this area.

In addition, Michal said the Albanian flag now flies at NATO’s Cyber Defence Centre in Tallinn. He pointed to growing bilateral relations ahead of the 25th anniversary of cooperation between the two countries. He said discussions will continue and added that he will meet Prime Minister Rama again at the EU–Western Balkans Summit. He also said Rama is always welcome to return to Estonia.
