EU Ambassador Gonzato Receives “Benemerenti” Grand Medal for His Contribution to Albania–EU Relations

Albania awarded European Union Ambassador Silvio Gonzato the Grand Star of the “Benemerenti” Medal in recognition of his contribution to strengthening Albania–EU relations during his mandate.

At the ceremony, Gonzato thanked the Albanian people and highlighted the country’s progress toward European integration.

He said the European Union represents more than a common market or economy, describing it as a community built on shared values such as freedom, equality, human rights and the rule of law.

Gonzato praised the three years he spent in Albania and thanked the citizens he met throughout his mission.

He said the EU Delegation worked to support reforms and encouraged all actors to participate in the country’s European journey.

Gonzato emphasized the importance of building a society where institutions protect citizens’ rights and young people contribute to shaping Albania’s future.

He concluded his message by saying Albania would always remain close to his heart and expressed hope of seeing the country become part of the European Union.
