EU enlargement commissioner Marta Kos visits Kosova today

TIRANA, May 15 – European Union Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos visits Kosova today. She will meet Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Prishtina. Both sides hold a joint press conference at 10:45, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Kosova hosts Kos during her first visit to the country since she took office in 2024. The agenda does not include visits to other Western Balkan countries before or after Prishtina.

Earlier, Kos planned a visit on March 12, but the trip did not take place due to political developments in Kosova. President Vjosa Osmani issued a decree on March 6, after which parliament was dissolved following a deadlock in the election of the parliamentary speaker.

Against this background, the visit comes around three weeks before early elections scheduled for June 7.

Meanwhile, Kos addressed the Western Balkans Friends Group meeting in Bratislava. The group includes seven EU member states, including Slovakia and Greece. She said European security is closely linked to stability in the Western Balkans.

She also warned that delays in EU integration could open space for external actors to exploit instability.
