EU enlargement commissioner says Albania among frontrunners in accession process

TIRANA, April 24 – European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said Albania ranks among the leading countries in the EU accession process.

Speaking in an interview with Klan News, she pointed to recent progress and said authorities could soon meet interim benchmarks on rule of law. She added that this would allow the process of closing negotiation chapters to begin.

Highlighting broader momentum, Kos said Albania has opened all negotiation clusters and maintains strong political commitment to EU membership. She also noted that public support for joining the bloc exceeds 90%, a level she said no other candidate country currently matches.

Looking ahead, she said accession by 2030 remains possible if reforms continue at the same pace. Kos stressed that the European Commission does not set fixed dates but supports realistic timelines, adding that she will continue to push for full EU membership for all candidate countries under her mandate.
