TIRANA, August 12 – European Union officials have opposed Serbia’s plans to change the course of the Ibër River unless Serbia discusses the matter with Kosova.
European Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper told reporters that statements from the Serbian side do not support the goal of normal relations between Kosova and Serbia. She said that only dialogue can achieve this goal. Hipper also said progress in the dialogue remains a condition for both sides to advance on their European paths.
Meanwhile, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke on Sunday about a plan to divert the Ibër River. The river stretches for around 270 kilometres. It rises in Montenegro, flows through Serbia and then enters Kosova.
The Ibër River supplies the Ujman artificial lake. Around two-thirds of the lake lies within the territory of Kosova.
