EU Rapporteur Schieder Urges Calm as Protests Turn Violent in Tirana

European Parliament rapporteur for Albania Andreas Schieder has expressed concern over clashes between protesters and police in Tirana, urging all sides to stop the escalation immediately.

In a social media statement, Schieder noted that young people across Europe, from Paris and Berlin to Tirana, are demanding better education and equal opportunities. He said these demands should prompt governments to reconsider their approach.

“Education is our most important investment in the future and should never depend on parents’ financial means,” Schieder said.

However, he stressed that violence is never the answer, whether it comes from individuals who infiltrate protests to provoke unrest or from state authorities and police.

As the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Albania, Schieder reiterated his concern over the situation in the capital and called for an immediate end to the escalation.
