European Commission exclusive to Albanian Radio and Television confirms support for Albania

TIRANA, June 17 – The European Commission confirms its support for Albania’s European Union membership path. It links progress to maintaining the pace of reforms. The 2027 target for closing accession negotiations remains achievable, according to an exclusive response to Albanian Radio and Television. It describes sustained reform momentum as the only condition for reaching the goal.

Albania shows strong commitment to European Union reforms. The Commission highlights the opening of six negotiating clusters in just over one year. This progress keeps the country on track toward its stated objective. However, it stresses the need to maintain the current reform pace.

The Interim Benchmark Assessment Report, known as IBAR, sets out the next steps in the accession process. It evaluates progress in meeting interim standards, particularly in the rule of law chapters. Albania has met these standards, and the country can now begin closing negotiation chapters.

Following this milestone, the Commission confirms continued support for Albanian institutions. It prioritises effective implementation of reforms and further alignment with European Union legislation.

Close cooperation with Albanian authorities will continue to ensure delivery of reforms aligned with European Union standards.

Albania opened all accession negotiating clusters in just over one year. The country also uses artificial intelligence to support alignment of national legislation with European Union law.
