European Union Civil Protection Mechanism deploys firefighting teams and helicopters in Albania

TIRANA, August 18 – Large wildfires have affected Albania and several other European countries. The fires have claimed lives and damaged homes, ecosystems, farmland, infrastructure, cultural heritage and local economies.

The European Union Delegation in Tirana said Europe remains united in response to the fires. It stressed that no country should face such emergencies alone.
Through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, firefighting teams and helicopters are being sent to areas with the greatest need. Meanwhile, Copernicus, the European Union’s Earth observation system, is providing emergency services with fast and reliable geospatial information.

The delegation stressed that protecting lives, communities and the environment remains a shared responsibility.
