European Week of Sport, Gonxhja: Let’s Make Sport Part of Our Daily Lives

The European Week of Sport began on Sept. 20 and will run through Sept. 30. The initiative forms part of the European “BeActive” campaign. It promotes physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja highlighted the importance of sport. He said sport brings communities together. It also promotes solidarity, respect, equality and inclusion.

“Sport is one of the most beautiful languages that brings Europe together. It brings us closer, includes us and teaches us the values of solidarity, respect, equality and a more active society,” Gonxhja said.

Meanwhile, the European Week of Sport encourages citizens to take part in different physical activities. People can join regardless of their age or fitness level. A walk, a run or a game with friends can increase daily physical activity. Community activities and new sports can also help people adopt a more active lifestyle.

In addition, Gonxhja stressed that the “BeActive” initiative welcomes everyone. It includes people who already practice sports regularly. At the same time, it encourages those who want to start exercising.

“Let’s make sport part of our daily lives, not only during this week, but every day,” the minister said.

Moreover, the European Week of Sport forms part of the European Commission’s “BeActive” initiative. The campaign promotes physical activity and inclusion. It also encourages people across Europe to adopt more active lifestyles.

In Albania, authorities are holding activities under the message “Be Active. Be Inclusive. Be European”. The activities will take place from Sept. 23 to 30.
