An exhibition showcasing the traditional architecture of communities around Lake Shkodra opened on Albania’s National Cultural Heritage Day, highlighting the shared history, craftsmanship and architectural identity of regions connected by the lake.
The exhibition, titled “Traditional Architecture Along the Lake Shkodra Basin,” is the result of a collaboration between the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodra and architect and researcher Korab Kraja from Ulcinj. It focuses on the Kraja region in Montenegro and the lakeside area of Mbi-Shkodra in Albania, two areas that share many characteristics of traditional architecture and have maintained strong economic, social and cultural ties for centuries.
Through architectural drawings and photographs, the exhibition documents the work of local builders whose craftsmanship remains visible in traditional homes and historic structures across villages surrounding the lake. The displays show how local communities adapted their buildings to the natural environment while preserving distinctive architectural styles.
Meanwhile, the exhibition emphasizes the importance of documenting, studying and preserving this cultural heritage, which reflects the long-standing connections among communities living around Lake Shkodra. It presents traditional architecture not only as a record of the past, but also as a shared cultural legacy that continues to preserve values and tell the story of cross-border relations in the region.
