MeteoAlb meteorologist Hakil Osmani has forecast another spell of extreme heat for Albania, warning that temperatures could climb as high as 41°C in several parts of the country during the first half of August.
Speaking to Euronews Albania, Osmani said the first two weeks of the month are expected to be the hottest, with very little rainfall. The highest temperatures are forecast for Elbasan, Berat, Tirana, Gjirokastër, and Shkodër.
According to the forecast, today’s maximum temperatures will remain around 10 degrees above seasonal averages, with thermometers nearing 41°C in the hottest regions. Tirana is also expected to approach 40°C, while Gjirokastër and Shkodër could see similar temperatures.
Coastal areas will also experience intense heat over the weekend, with temperatures ranging from 36°C to nearly 39°C. The coolest part of the country is expected to be the southeast, where highs will range between 30°C and 33°C.
Osmani said the weekend will be dominated by sunny and stable weather, particularly along the coast and in lowland areas. Some cloud development is expected over mountainous regions during the afternoon, with only a slight chance of brief, isolated showers in the far northeast. The rest of the country is expected to remain dry.
Although temperatures are forecast to ease slightly by midweek, with highs dropping to around 38°C, another heatwave is expected to develop during the second half of the week, pushing temperatures back up to 40–41°C.
The renewed heat may also trigger isolated convective thunderstorms, mainly in northern Albania. These short-lived storms are expected to affect limited areas and could last between five and ten minutes.
Looking further ahead, Osmani said temperatures are likely to remain exceptionally high through the first half of August, frequently reaching or slightly exceeding 40°C. During the second half of the month, temperatures are expected to ease slightly, with maximums ranging between 36°C and 37°C.
He also noted that the first half of August will be dominated by dry and stable weather, while the second half of the month is expected to bring a greater chance of rainfall and more frequent showers.
