TIRANA, April 30 – Finance Minister Petrit Malaj reported a positive and stable fiscal and economic performance during the first three months of 2026. He said key indicators showed higher budget revenues, improved fiscal administration, stronger tax compliance, as well as growth in employment and business activity.
He attributed the results to tighter financial management and to the impact of policies aimed at supporting sustainable economic growth for businesses and citizens. “The results showed more careful financial management and concrete effects of the policies implemented for ensuring sustainable growth,” Malaj said.
At the same time, he confirmed that total revenues for January–March reached 205.1 billion ALL (Albanian Lek), equal to 105.8% of the plan. He also noted an annual increase of 13.3%, or about 250 million euros, compared to the same period last year, while revenues exceeded projections by 110 million euros.
In addition, Malaj stressed that the increase did not come from higher taxes but from improved tax and customs administration and better implementation of the medium-term revenue strategy. He explained that taxes accounted for 37.9% of total revenues, followed by customs at 25.8% and social and health contributions at 22.3%, while tax administration revenues reached 77.7 billion ALL.
In conclusion, the ministry presented the first quarter results as evidence of stronger fiscal discipline and improved revenue collection performance.
