TIRANA, April 29 – A cooperation agreement between Italian company Fincantieri and company KAYO marks a step toward the modernization of the Albanian Armed Forces. The project focuses on the construction of military vessels in the Vlora Bay Naval Base naval base.
The agreement establishes a new company that will produce ships in Vlora Bay Naval Base. The production will serve the Albanian army and allied countries. Prime Minister Edi Rama describes the initiative as important for national security, the armed forces, the economy, and youth employment.
Rama says the project introduces a new industrial vision. He adds that it creates an Italian–Albanian excellence model within Albania’s territory, as the naval shipbuilding sector evolves internationally.
At the same time, he highlights the role of vocational training. He points to students from the industrial school in Vlora, who will take part in the project and receive training from Fincantieri specialists.
Rama confirms that Albania will be the first beneficiary of the new company’s production. He says the project includes two naval vessels for the Armed Forces, which will raise the fleet to seven ships in line with NATO standards and Albania’s role in the Mediterranean.
In addition, he says production will expand beyond domestic needs. The company will target international markets and introduce advanced technology and innovation into Albania’s naval industry.
