TIRANA, August 12 – A fire in Lura National Park has entered its second day. The flames are advancing towards inhabited areas.
Around 140 personnel are now involved in the operation. Two Canadair aircraft are also supporting the operation from the air.
Dibër Mayor Rahim Spahiu reported the large fire in the Borie-Lura area on Tuesday. He called for local authorities and other forces to help extinguish and isolate the fire. At the time, 66 personnel were working at the site. The group included 13 firefighters, 14 Agriculture Directorate employees, 7 Lura administrative unit employees, 4 Civil Emergencies employees, 8 employees of the Protected Areas Administration Agency and 20 volunteers.
Meanwhile, the latest reports indicate that the situation has worsened. The fire continues for a second day. The flames are moving towards inhabited areas. Around 140 personnel are now working to contain and isolate the fire. The difficult mountain terrain is making the ground operation particularly challenging.
The operation has also received air support from 2 Canadair aircraft. At the same time, ground teams are focusing on protecting homes and preventing the flames from spreading further.
The Lura fire remains one of the most challenging active fires. Emergency teams continue their efforts to bring the situation under control.
