First Direct Tirana–Toronto Flight Takes Off, Albania Joins Transatlantic Air Map

Albania has entered the era of transatlantic flights with the launch of the first direct route between Tirana and Toronto.

At the inauguration ceremony, Enea Karakaçi described the new service as a historic milestone for Albanian civil aviation and a major opportunity for tourism, business, and people-to-people connections between Albania and Canada.

Karakaçi said the event represents more than the arrival of a plane. It opens a new bridge of communication between the two countries and creates fresh opportunities for cooperation.

He noted that the direct route is the result of close collaboration between Albanian and Canadian institutions, supported by intensive diplomatic and technical work.

According to the minister, the new connection holds special importance for the Albanian community in Canada. Thousands of Albanians living and working there maintain strong ties with their homeland and will now benefit from easier travel.

Moreover, the route opens a new market for Albanian tourism. It is expected to attract visitors from Canada while creating new opportunities for investment, trade, and economic exchange.

Karakaçi also highlighted the rapid growth of Albania’s aviation sector. Passenger numbers have tripled compared with the pre-pandemic period, while air connections continue to expand.

He stressed that growth goes hand in hand with safety. Albania has invested in stronger aviation oversight, higher standards, and closer alignment with European and international requirements.

Looking ahead, Karakaçi said the government’s vision remains clear: more connections, greater opportunities, and an aviation sector that supports the country’s economic and social development.

He added that Albania will continue working with international partners to expand its destination network, increase infrastructure capacity, and strengthen its position as a success story in European aviation.
