TIRANA, August 6 – Albania reported 28 wildfires in the past 24 hours, with 5 fires still active, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The National Civil Protection Agency, local authorities and the Armed Forces are coordinating firefighting operations across the country. A total of 64 firefighting vehicles, 631 operational forces, 90 Armed Forces personnel, 3 helicopters and 1 Air Force “Air Tractor” aircraft are supporting the response.
In the Mount Dajti area, firefighting teams continue efforts to extinguish the blaze. The operation involves the Fire Protection and Rescue Service, the Protected Areas Administration and 50 Armed Forces personnel. The Air Force aircraft is also supporting the intervention, while authorities report no risk to residential areas. Meanwhile, teams are working to isolate fires in Riban and Ngraçan villages in Mallakastër. Four families have been temporarily evacuated for safety reasons.
In Elbasan County, authorities continue operations in Shqiponja, Mount Dardha and Mjekës. The fire in Shqiponja remains under control, while teams have isolated the blaze on Mount Dardhë. Firefighters continue efforts to fully extinguish the fire in Mjekës. Authorities have also completed firefighting operations in Pocest, Dibër, as well as in Stegopull–Selcka and Levenishta in Gjirokastër, where monitoring continues.
The fires have affected around 34.5 hectares of grassland, bushes, pine trees and mixed forests. The National Civil Protection Agency continues monitoring the situation and coordinating interventions nationwide.
