FM Hoxha at Bled Strategic Forum: EU enlargement makes the bloc stronger and more united

TIRANA, September 1 – Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha took part in a panel on “Enlargement as Europe’s Future Geopolitical Tool” at the Bled Strategic Forum, alongside European Commissioner Marta Kos.

Hoxha said enlargement should remain a merit-based process and stressed the importance of credibility and maintaining the pace of negotiations. He said Albania has made difficult choices, carried out broad reforms and remains committed to strengthening democratic institutions.

The minister said Albania does not see itself only as a future beneficiary of the European project. He described EU membership as both an aspiration and an offer, saying Albania is ready to contribute to the Union’s strength, competitiveness and security.

Hoxha also said previous rounds of enlargement had made the European Union stronger, more prosperous and more influential. He said the next round of enlargement would have the same effect and described it as a strategic investment in a stronger, safer and more united Europe.
