Fokus Award photography festival opens in Shkodër

The 17th edition of the international Fokus Award Photography Festival has opened in Shkodër with the exhibition “No Limits”. The Oda Gallery hosts works by 10 Italian photographers.

Festival artistic director Arben Alliaj said the photographers bring different styles, approaches and subjects. He said the exhibition reflects the broad possibilities of photography and gives each artist space to explore individual themes.

Meanwhile, curator Maria Lanotte highlighted the variety of works and messages presented by the Italian photographers. She said the exhibition includes reportage, investigative photography and other forms of photographic expression.

Among the participating artists, Giuseppe Cardoni presented a black-and-white photo report on the ritual of death in Mexico. Cardoni said he prefers black-and-white photography because it encourages greater reflection and can convey stronger emotions to audiences.

After Shkodër, Fokus Award activities will continue in Tirana and Fier. The festival began in 2006 and has hosted more than 6,000 artists over the years. Around 2,400 authors have taken part in its exhibitions and other activities.
