Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Albania rose sharply during the first six months of 2026. FDI reached €1.144 billion, marking a 50% increase compared with the same period last year.
Data from the Bank of Albania on the country’s balance of payments show that FDI flows reached €741 million in the second quarter alone. This represents an 86% increase compared with the second quarter of 2025.
The strong growth in FDI sends a positive signal for the Albanian economy. It reflects higher foreign capital flows and growing interest from non-resident investors in the Albanian market.
Meanwhile, the real estate sector continues to attract a significant share of foreign investment. In recent years, the sector has become one of the main destinations for foreign capital.
According to the Bank of Albania, the stock of foreign investment in real estate reached €2.63 billion at the end of 2025.
This marked a 29% increase from the previous year. Over the past decade, foreign investment in real estate has grown significantly. The trend shows stronger interest from foreign investors in the Albanian market.
This interest is particularly strong in areas with high tourism and economic potential. In 2026, real estate continues to lead the structure of FDI for the fifth consecutive year.
Foreign direct investment plays an important role in the economy. It brings capital and supports business activity. It also creates opportunities for the development of different sectors. In addition, FDI contributes to stronger foreign currency inflows.
FDI also plays an important role in the balance of payments. It helps offset the current account deficit and finance the economy’s foreign currency needs.
Overall, the first half of 2026 shows a significant increase in foreign capital flows into Albania. The 50% rise in FDI also points to growing investor interest in the domestic economy.
