Foreign Minister Hoxha: Greece is helping us on our path to the EU! Without them, chapters would not have opened

Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, gave an exclusive interview to Euronews Albania with moderator Thimi Samarxhiu regarding the country’s EU integration process and its international relations.

In the interview, Hoxha also focused on relations with Greece, which, according to him, are currently among the best they have ever been.

“I am telling you that the relations we have today with Greece are the best we have had in the past 35 years. There is a shared willingness from both sides to move forward. We have tried everything—we have had tensions, misunderstandings, and situations where we made things more difficult for each other. Today, we have an agreement to make things easier for one another.

Greece is a member state, which we take into account, but Greece is helping us and is among Albania’s strong supporters in the negotiation process. If Greece did not want it, no chapter would have been opened. It only takes one country, as we know.

From my discussions with my Greek counterpart—without revealing anything unnecessary—we have a shared understanding to move forward as quickly and effectively as possible, and to substantially address all issues, within a general framework that the Prime Minister has mentioned several times. The only agreement we have is to sit down and work.

Greece will hold the presidency in the second half of 2027. We will do everything possible to make this a success for both Albania and Greece,” Hoxha said.
