TIRANA, June 25 – Foreign arrivals in Albania increased significantly in May 2026, reflecting the start of the tourist season and a higher flow of visitors into the country. The Institute of Statistics said 1,143,595 foreign citizens entered Albania during the month, marking a 15.9 percent increase, or around 16 percent, compared with the same period last year.
At the same time, total entries of Albanian and foreign citizens reached 1,880,161, up 12.2 percent, while exits stood at 1,802,626, increasing by 8.9 percent. Meanwhile, Albanian citizens recorded 736,566 entries and 735,795 exits, with rises of 6.9 percent and 3.6 percent respectively.
According to the Institute of Statistics, Southern Europe accounted for 70 percent of foreign arrivals, while Western Europe represented 12 percent. In addition, 98 percent of foreign entries were for personal reasons, whereas business and professional entries fell by 5.6 percent in May 2026 compared with a year earlier. As a result, for the January–May 2026 period, foreign arrivals increased by 8.2 percent, the Institute of Statistics said.
