TIRANA, July 9 – The distribution of free textbooks for the 2026–2027 school year has started in 15 countries where Albanian diaspora communities live.
The initiative supports Albanian language and culture education for children abroad. This year, the Albanian government will provide more than 5,800 learning packages for students and teachers in diaspora schools.
Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro attended the launch of the process at the Centre for Diaspora Publications. She highlighted the introduction of Level III of the textbook “Albanian Language and Culture” as the main innovation this year.
The new level completes the three-part textbook series used for teaching Albanian in diaspora communities. According to Kumbaro, the growing demand shows the increasing interest in learning the language abroad.
Meanwhile, the minister said the government will expand financial support for Albanian language teachers in the diaspora. The programme will increase the number of supported teachers in Greece and extend assistance to Italy.
Kumbaro also announced plans to transform the Centre for Diaspora Publications into a dedicated agency for certifying Albanian as a second language within the European language framework.
The Centre’s director, Mimoza Hysa, said the distribution process has become established over the past 7 years. For the new school year, around 17,000 textbooks will reach diaspora communities in 17 countries.
