The Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) says that hosting international sporting events helps promote Albania, develop tourism, and support economic growth.
FSHF highlighted the UEFA Europa Conference League final held in Tirana in 2022 as a clear example of how major football events can benefit the country.
The federation aims to host more international competitions, including the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2027. It has also submitted Albania’s bid to host the UEFA Super Cup final in 2028.
FSHF says sport today represents much more than competition and results. Major sporting events can increase a country’s international visibility, attract visitors, strengthen tourism, and create new economic opportunities.
The 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League final marked a historic moment for Albania. The event brought global attention to Tirana, welcomed international visitors, and showed that Albania can successfully organize high-level European competitions.
According to FSHF, the success of the final was not accidental. It resulted from a long-term strategy focused on developing Albanian football, improving infrastructure, and strengthening cooperation with UEFA and international partners.
The federation has continued this approach by hosting other important events, including the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Tirana, youth tournaments, conferences, and international football activities.
These initiatives have strengthened Albania’s position in European football, improved organizational standards, and created new opportunities for the country’s promotion.
Recent UEFA and Nielsen research also shows that interest in football among Albanians has grown significantly over the past decade. Public support for national teams has increased, while the connection between fans and football has become stronger.
FSHF attributes this progress to continued investments in infrastructure, national teams, youth football, women’s football, and professional development.
The federation will continue working to bring more international events to Albania. In 2027, Albania will co-host the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. FSHF is also pursuing the opportunity to host the UEFA Super Cup in 2028 and other major football events.
However, FSHF emphasizes that organizing such events requires cooperation between sports organizations, central institutions, local authorities, and private partners.
Major sporting events benefit not only football but also tourism, hospitality, local businesses, and the wider economy.
FSHF considers these events a strategic investment that can strengthen Albania’s international image and create long-term development opportunities.
When football grows, the federation says, Albania as a whole benefits.
