“Fustanella” exhibition showcases Albanian cultural identity in Berat

TIRANA, August 7 – The “Fustanella” (Albanian kilt) exhibition has opened at the Ethnographic Museum in Berat, presenting one of the most recognizable symbols of Albanian cultural identity through a blend of art and tradition.

The exhibition presents the fustanella, the traditional pleated kilt worn by Albanian men, as both a historic garment and a valuable element of the country’s cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, artworks by Albanian artist Fatos Sojati attracted visitors with their distinctive forms, intricate details and artistic interpretations. Young visitors and foreign tourists stopped to explore the collection, which connects tradition with contemporary art.

The exhibition also offers a new perspective on the fustanella by placing it in an artistic setting while highlighting its cultural significance. Organizers said the display brings the traditional garment closer to modern audiences and encourages appreciation of Albania’s heritage.

The fustanella has remained one of the best-known elements of traditional Albanian dress for centuries. People mainly wore it in southern Albania, where it became a symbol of identity, pride and resilience. Today, it continues to represent an important part of the country’s national cultural heritage.
