The Ethnographic Museum in Gjirokastër used traditional clothing today to present the city’s history and traditions. The activity introduced visitors to clothing elements from the area and their meaning across generations.
Tourists praised the clothing and its detailed craftsmanship. They said the garments also offered insights into local culture and ways of life.
Meanwhile, museum guide Iris Shane said such activities aim to make museum visits more than tourist stops. She said the Municipality of Gjirokastër and the Cultural Heritage Agency have added complete traditional costumes to the museum’s displays to preserve and pass on cultural heritage.
The collection now includes complete costumes for Gjirokastër men, women, girls and boys. It also includes costumes from the city’s other ethnographic areas. Shane said the museum aims to give visitors and future generations a fuller picture of traditional clothing.
The Ethnographic Museum remains a place where visitors can explore Gjirokastër’s traditions through both objects and the stories that bring them to life.
