Gogu: Strengthening Human Rights Standards Is Key to Albania’s EU Path

Toni Gogu met with Mattias Guyomar in Strasbourg.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights. They also reviewed the execution of rulings issued by the European Court of Human Rights and the progress of Albania’s justice reform.

Furthermore, Gogu described the European Court of Human Rights as one of the fundamental pillars of Europe’s human rights protection system.

He stressed that strengthening the implementation of Convention standards at the national level remains essential for building the rule of law in Albania.

Moreover, Gogu underlined that respect for human rights standards forms an integral part of Albania’s European integration process.

According to the minister, improving the application of these standards will help strengthen democratic institutions and bring the country closer to European Union membership.

Meanwhile, Darian Pavli, Albania’s judge at the Court, also attended the meeting.

In addition, the participants exchanged views on Albania’s justice reform process and shared experiences related to ongoing legal and institutional changes.

As a result, the meeting reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to strengthening the rule of law, protecting fundamental rights, and advancing reforms in line with European standards.
