Greek Minister Dendias: Greek Minority Builds Friendship Between Albania and Greece

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited Tirana on Monday and met Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The two officials discussed the wider geopolitical situation in the region. Dendias also spoke about Himarë, which he said is linked to his family origins. He said the Greek ethnic minority remains a bridge of friendship between Albania and Greece.

Rama welcomed Dendias at the prime minister’s residence in Tirana. The two also toured the residence garden and held a working lunch.

Earlier, Dendias met Albanian Defense Minister Ermal Nufi. They discussed stronger bilateral ties, NATO cooperation and regional and international developments.

The two sides described defense cooperation as an important pillar for peace, security and progress in the region. They also agreed to immediately convene the Joint Committee of Experts on Military Cemeteries.

Dendias said Greece will continue to honor those who gave their lives for the country.
