Former U.S. envoy for the Balkans Richard Grenell has reacted to the latest political developments in Kosovo, expressing support for six MPs from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) who have said they will not vote for Bekim Sejdiu as president.
Grenell posted a photo of the six MPs on the social media platform X, including former Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti, along with a message of support.
“My friend Avdullah Hoti and his colleagues are great friends of America,” Grenell wrote.
His reaction comes at a time when Bekim Sejdiu’s presidential candidacy, proposed as part of an agreement between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the LDK, has sparked divisions within the LDK.
The six LDK MPs who have announced that they will not support Sejdiu are Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Armend Zemaj, Kujtim Shala and Janina Ymeri.
Their statements have created fresh tensions within the party and raised questions over whether the agreed candidate for President of Kosovo will secure full parliamentary support.
