Guljelm Radoja, the Unforgettable Actor of Albanian Cinema and Theatre

Albania remembers Guljelm Radoja, one of the country’s most distinguished actors, on the anniversary of his birth on July 2, 1945, in Shkodër.

After completing his studies in Dramaturgy at the former Higher Institute of Arts, now the University of Arts, in 1972, Radoja began his professional career at the Librazhd Theatre. He then worked as both actor and director at the Bylis Theatre. Later, he joined the Aleksandër Moisiu Theatre before returning to the National Theatre of Albania in 1996.

Moreover, Radoja built an outstanding career in cinema, appearing in around 40 films between 1970 and 2019. Audiences widely praised his performances as Stefan Bardhi in Mësonjëtorja, Petro Nini Luarasi in Kush Vdes në Këmbë, Alberto in Gjeneral Gramafoni, and the Italian priest in Kthimi i Ushtrisë së Vdekur.

In addition, his talent, dedication, and commanding screen presence earned him the honorary titles of “Merited Artist” and “Grand Master.”

Although Radoja passed away in 2021 after contracting COVID-19, his legacy continues to inspire generations of actors and audiences. As a result, he remains one of the most respected and beloved figures in Albanian theatre and cinema.
