Heavy traffic in Lezha during tourist season: Traffic police chief urges use of alternative routes

TIRANA, August 19 – The high number of tourists visiting Lezhë and surrounding areas has increased traffic on local roads. As a result, the Road Police has increased its presence to manage traffic and prevent long queues at the most congested points. Officers are monitoring traffic continuously and intervening where congestion occurs.

The pressure is now fully felt, and every day of the week is almost the same. We have deployed all available personnel in 12-hour shifts. Shëngjin is the most problematic point,” said Altin Dervishi, head of traffic police in Lezha.

Meanwhile, a significant number of heavy vehicles return to the roads after weekend restrictions. These include trucks entering Albania through the 2 border crossings with Montenegro. Dervishi said Monday mornings have become particularly congested because heavy vehicles resume their journeys after the weekend restrictions.

He urged drivers to respect traffic rules and speed limits and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. In addition, police recommend using alternative routes to reduce congestion. Dervishi suggested the old Milot-Lezha road and the route from the Shaljan intersection towards Mplusi for drivers returning from Shëngjin.
