Hours After MEP’s Interview on Closed Accounts, Euronews Albania Disappears from Instagram

Just hours after MEP Sandro Gozi spoke in the Euronews Albania studio about the shutdown of Albanian Instagram accounts and called for transparency from Meta, Euronews Albania’s own page is no longer accessible on the platform.

Last night, appearing as a guest on the program “Review,” Gozi addressed the wave of Albanian accounts that have been shut down in recent days and raised a direct question: What is happening, and why are these accounts being closed?

The MEP called for transparency from Meta and demanded a clear explanation. There is a certain irony in the fact that just hours after an MEP appeared on Euronews Albania calling for transparency over the closure of Albanian accounts, Euronews Albania itself is now waiting for answers.

This Saturday, Euronews Albania’s official Instagram account, with around 234,000 followers and millions of views, displays the message “User not found,” while attempts to access its content also trigger the message “Something went wrong.”

So far, Meta has provided no public explanation for what has happened to Euronews Albania’s account.

The Euronews Albania case adds to a series of Albanian accounts affected in recent days. For precisely this reason, the issue can no longer be treated simply as an isolated problem affecting a single profile.

Meta must publicly explain: What is happening with Instagram in Albania?
