Hoxha: Albania Ready to Join Europe Against Disinformation and Hybrid Threats

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha said Albania is ready to join European efforts against disinformation and hybrid threats.

Hoxha welcomed a resolution adopted today by the European Parliament on the European Democracy Shield. The resolution recognizes the Western Balkans as a key target of foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI).

“The message from the European Parliament is clear: strengthening democratic resilience in candidate countries means strengthening Europe itself,” Hoxha said.

He linked the resolution to the FIMI conference Albania hosted last July. The event brought together partner countries, European institutions, experts, media and civil society to address disinformation, hybrid threats, malicious influence and the misuse of new technologies.

Hoxha said democratic resilience now forms an essential part of Europe’s collective security.

He also welcomed the European Parliament’s call to strengthen resilience against FIMI across Europe, including candidate countries.

“Europe’s democratic resilience can only be as strong as its weakest link,” Hoxha said.

Meanwhile, he reaffirmed Albania’s readiness to work closely with European partners. He said the country will join common efforts to strengthen democratic resilience and protect Europe’s shared democratic space.
