Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha took part in a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Adriatic Charter, held under Croatia’s chairmanship.
During the meeting, Hoxha called for stronger cooperation within the mechanism. He also stressed the need for a more inclusive regional approach to address emerging security challenges.
In particular, Hoxha called for progress on Kosovo’s membership bid.
“Kosovo’s membership request has remained pending for far too long. Progress on this issue would strengthen regional cohesion and our collective ability to address common security challenges,” Hoxha said.
More than two decades after its establishment, the Adriatic Charter remains an important pillar of regional security and Euro-Atlantic cooperation.
Meanwhile, Hoxha highlighted several emerging threats that require stronger cooperation. These include cyber threats, energy security, and foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI).
He called for greater effectiveness within the Adriatic Charter. At the same time, he stressed the need to deepen and expand regional cooperation.
Hoxha also underlined the importance of inclusiveness. He said security in the Western Balkans requires the full integration of all countries and societies into cooperation mechanisms and frameworks of shared responsibility.
“Long-term stability can only be achieved when all countries and societies in the region are fully integrated into a framework of cooperation, security and shared responsibility, which supports our common future,” he said.
In addition, Hoxha said a more open, stronger and more inclusive Adriatic Charter can better respond to emerging challenges. He stressed that such an approach would contribute to a safer Western Balkans and a stronger common Euro-Atlantic future.
