Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha welcomed EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos and European Union officials at Albania’s Mission to the EU in Brussels on Monday.
The meeting followed Albania’s positive assessment in the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR), which Hoxha said reflects the country’s transformative efforts on its path toward European integration.
Furthermore, Hoxha highlighted the successful outcome of the 8th Intergovernmental Conference and described the IBAR evaluation as a major milestone in Albania’s EU journey. He noted that the achievement resulted from years of political commitment and wide-ranging reforms implemented by the government and state institutions.
According to Hoxha, the positive result confirms that progress in the EU enlargement process remains merit-based. He also praised Commissioner Kos and her team for their commitment to maintaining momentum and strengthening confidence in the transformative power of the European project.
In addition, Hoxha stressed that the positive IBAR assessment is both an encouragement and a responsibility. While it recognizes Albania’s progress so far, it also sets the stage for further work on closing negotiation chapters and advancing reforms.
Finally, the minister reaffirmed Albania’s determination to continue its European path and thanked the European Commission, EU member states, and international partners for their continued support. He said Albania remains fully committed to fulfilling the aspirations of generations of citizens who see their future within the European Union.
