Hoxha: We create a diaspora registry as a base for effective policies

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha spoke about the Fourth Diaspora Summit in a TV interview. This year’s summit will focus on economic, social, and cultural issues. It will include discussions on integrating the diaspora into Albania’s development.

Hoxha said the three previous summits strengthened ties with the diaspora and created mechanisms for cooperation.

He recalled the past summits: the first in 2019 built contacts and introduced the community; the second in 2020 raised ambition and created the Coordinating Committee for the Diaspora; the third in 2023 focused on concrete areas and analyzed diaspora links with Albania.

Hoxha said this summit works “not for the diaspora, but with the diaspora.” He emphasized active participation in decision-making and policy building.

The summit will feature 17 thematic panels led by diaspora members. They will cover economy, culture, art, cinema, and European integration participation. The diaspora will give concrete proposals and feedback, strengthening dialogue and cooperation.

A key goal is to create a clear diaspora registry. This will serve as a base for effective policies and better coordination with the community abroad.
