Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj presented in Parliament the draft law to ratify the social security agreement between Albania and Poland.
First, she said the agreement strengthens social protection for Albanian citizens inside and outside the country.
In addition, she stressed that the deal guarantees recognition of work contributions in both countries. As a result, citizens will keep their social rights when they move between Albania and Poland.
Moreover, Ibrahimaj highlighted that Albania now has 21 bilateral social security agreements. Out of these, 10 are with EU member states. She described them as a key tool for protecting Albanian workers abroad.
“These agreements recognize years of work and convert them into guaranteed social rights,” she said.
Furthermore, she explained that the agreement creates a legal framework for coordinating social security systems between the two countries. Therefore, it ensures continuity of benefits for mobile workers.
At the same time, Ibrahimaj said the agreement carries economic, social, and strategic value. It strengthens bilateral relations and brings Albania and Poland closer together.
Likewise, she pointed to growing economic ties between the two countries. Trade, investment, and employment have all increased in recent years.
In detail, she noted that the agreement covers pensions, disability benefits, family pensions, sickness and maternity support, workplace accidents, unemployment benefits, and survivor payments.
Additionally, she said the agreement aligns with EU rules on free movement of workers and social protection.
Finally, Ibrahimaj stated that ratification supports Albania’s EU integration process. She emphasized that integration brings more rights, security, and opportunities for citizens.
She concluded by calling on MPs to support the approval of the draft law.
