Ibrahimaj: We will advance wage growth policy

Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, said today that Albania is promoting an economy focused on attracting investments and exporting higher-value products.

She spoke during a visit to an industrial complex in Durrës, alongside Prime Minister Edi Rama and Mayor Emiriana Sako.

“This business processes and exports precious metals. It adds value and connects to global markets, including Europe, Japan, and Korea,” Ibrahimaj said.

She emphasized that Albania’s economy previously relied on services and low-cost labor. Now, the goal is to produce goods and services with higher local value. This will increase revenues, improve wages, and raise living standards for employees.

“Currently, 80% of exports are services and only 20% are goods. We aim to strengthen businesses that export more processed products and offer higher wages,” she added.

Ibrahimaj highlighted government actions on wages. The minimum wage increased from 40,000 to 50,000 lekë on January 1. Public sector salaries have also grown, sometimes by 50–60%. Private sector wages vary: in some businesses, salaries range from €700 to €1,500.

She stressed the importance of vocational schools. “We want schools linked closely to business to train employees with ready skills for the labor market. Strengthening businesses like this will help advance wage growth further,” Ibrahimaj concluded.
