Ilir Panda Takes Over as President of the Supreme Court as Sokol Sadushi Hands Over Office

Sokol Sadushi officially handed over his duties as President of the Supreme Court to Ilir Panda during a ceremony held this Friday in Tirana, in the Joint Chambers Hall.

The ceremony was attended by Supreme Court judges, legal advisers, and members of the court’s administrative staff.

The handover marks the end of Sadushi’s six-year term as head of the court. According to the institution, some of the main challenges during his tenure included reducing the backlog of cases, improving the quality of judicial decisions, and increasing transparency with the public.

In his speech, Sadushi thanked his colleagues for their dedication over the years, recalling the difficulties faced at the beginning of his term, when the court had only one judge and thousands of pending cases.

He announced that he would continue serving at the Supreme Court as a judge.

“For me, my role as president ends today, but my responsibility as a judge of this court continues. I will continue working alongside you with the same dedication to the institution and to the citizens who await justice,” Sadushi said.

Meanwhile, the new president, Ilir Panda, described taking office as a significant responsibility towards the Constitution and the citizens. He praised the efforts made to rebuild the institution, emphasizing that public trust in the justice system requires high standards in judicial decision-making and efficient management of court proceedings.

“Public trust is built through the quality of judicial decisions, clear and consistent judicial reasoning, efficient management of proceedings, and institutional accountability,” Panda stated.

With Ilir Panda taking office, the Supreme Court continues its work in handling judicial cases and ensuring impartial and trustworthy justice for citizens.
