Interior Minister Ervin Demo said Albania has increased the number of joint investigation teams fivefold over the past five years. He made the statement at the 42nd conference of the European Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates, an organization representing graduates of the FBI National Academy. Albania is hosting the event, which brings together 235 FBI representatives and law enforcement officials from Europe and beyond.
Demo said the choice of Albania as the host reflected progress in security and law enforcement. He credited the United States with supporting Albania’s institutional development. Demo said the country’s law enforcement and justice institutions have achieved increasingly visible results in the fight against organized crime.
Meanwhile, Demo said organized crime, terrorism and cybercrime no longer respect borders. He stressed that international cooperation remains essential to address these threats. According to Demo, Albania’s recent results in fighting organized crime directly reflect this cooperation.
Demo said the State Police conducted more than 100 joint operations with international partners last year. He said the operations involved more than 22 joint investigation teams with partner countries, Europol and Interpol. Demo also highlighted progress in confiscating criminal assets and detecting crime. He said international cooperation depends on institutional trust.
