Interior Minister Lamallari meets FRONTEX officials on border security cooperation

Tirana, MAY 19 – Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari met senior FRONTEX representatives Eva Capogna, Holger Farnung, Teuta Krasniqi and Ksenia Hawryszkow in Tirana on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Lamallari said discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Albania, FRONTEX and the European Union in border security, migration management and the fight against cross-border crime.

Meanwhile, he said Albania became the first non-European Union country to host a joint FRONTEX operation. According to him, the operation reflected trust in Albania and confirmed the country’s role as a security factor in the region.

In addition, Lamallari said joint operations, the participation of Albanian officers in European missions and efforts to modernize migration management systems continue to strengthen national capacities in line with European Union standards and Albania’s integration path.
