TIRANA, September 2 – The International Monetary Fund has launched a mission in Albania focused on improving how the country plans, finances and implements public investments.
The IMF instrument examines the full project cycle, from planning and selection to implementation and monitoring. IMF experts will be meeting senior officials at the Ministry of Finance to review current procedures and practices for managing public investments.
Albanian authorities say they have introduced several reforms in recent years to strengthen the process. These include greater fiscal discipline, the creation of a Unified Project List and alignment of the legal framework with European Union integration requirements.
The government says problems such as unpaid bills and projects launched without full financing now belong to the past. During their stay in Albania, IMF experts will review the current investment management procedures.
