International Museum Day marked, free entry to museums on May 18 and May 21 in Albania

TIRANA, May 18 – The global museum community marks International Museum Day today. In this context, Albania offers free entry to museums on May 18 and May 21 for related cultural events.

Meanwhile, the International Council of Museums established the day in 1977. The initiative aims to raise public awareness of the role of museums in society.

In addition, the programme enables museum professionals to meet visitors. It also allows them to explain sector challenges. Across Albania, museums and cultural sites run activities throughout the week. These activities connect the public with history, identity and cultural values through inclusive experiences.

At institutional level, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports coordinates Museum Week 2026 from May 18 to May 24. Museums, archaeological parks and heritage sites host exhibitions, guided tours, performances and educational programmes nationwide.
