Albania has celebrated a historic success at the Mediterranean Games “Taranto 2026” as wrestler Islam Dudaev won the country’s first gold medal of the Games.
Dudaev claimed the title in the men’s freestyle 74-kilogram category. He reached the final and secured the gold after his opponent, Fati Vejseli of North Macedonia, withdrew because of an injury.
The victory marks a major achievement for Albanian wrestling and adds another important chapter to the country’s international sporting success.
Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja described the result as a historic day for Albanian sport. He praised Dudaev for delivering a remarkable performance and bringing home Albania’s first gold medal at Taranto 2026.
Meanwhile, Dudaev’s triumph has given Albania a strong start at the Mediterranean Games and placed Albanian wrestling in the international spotlight.
