Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani: Western Balkans EU enlargement is a strategic investment, process must be accelerated

TIRANA, May 29 – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said European Union enlargement towards the Western Balkans represents a strategic investment and must be accelerated.

Meanwhile, Tajani said Italy supports the launch of a process that will bring Ukraine into the European Union. He also said other candidate countries must not be forgotten.

At the same time, Tajani said Western Balkans enlargement remains the priority for Italy. He said Ukraine and Moldova must start reforms, fight corruption, and respect EU accession rules.

In addition, the foreign minister said Italy is ready to contribute to support these countries. He described the reunification of the Western Balkans with Europe as a fundamental priority for both Italy and the European Union.

Finally, Tajani called for faster progress. He said enlargement would create a broad area of stability for candidate countries and European businesses.
