Italian Foreign Minister says Western Balkans EU membership should be accelerated

TIRANA, June 30 – Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said Italy will work to accelerate European Union membership for Western Balkan countries during the Dubrovnik Forum in Croatia. He said Albania and Montenegro are ready for membership. He also said other countries in the region should move forward so most can join the European Union.

Tajani described EU enlargement as a political priority for Italy. He said Italy is working through a group established with Western Balkan partners. In addition, he said Italy is cooperating closely with Croatia and other countries to support the accession process.

The Dubrovnik Forum is an annual international conference in Croatia. It brings together European and global decision makers. They discuss major international issues and policy priorities.

This year’s edition focused on international security and changes in the global order. It also addressed cooperation between states. EU enlargement featured among the main topics.

Discussions centered on Western Balkan integration. Participants stressed the need to accelerate the process. They also linked it to regional stability and cooperation.

The forum gathered foreign ministers, including Tajani. It also included prime ministers, diplomats, and representatives of international organizations such as the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The meeting served as a platform for coordination between Europe and international partners.
